Steve, Since the employee timetables of that era had a specific speed restriction on trains carrying DM&IR ore cars, I think it would reasonable to expect that they were at least a semi-regular sets

Depending on the decoder, it is not uncommon to have to replace the lamps or put in a resistor on the lamps. If it is a DCC ready loco with a drop in decoder, the lamps in most cases are already low
