Ed- AFAIK the Ribbon Style lettering was used for the rebuilds of the Suburban Service coaches, so the first application is a little earlier than 1951... 1950 or maybe even 1949?? I don't have any material that pinpoints exactly when the power cars were built and the coaches air-conditioned and vestibuled, but it would be in time for the introduction of the Bilevels.
