One other source and unfortunately out-of-print is an article by yours truly in
the Dec
1988 and Jan 1989 Passenger Train Journal. The article covered the period from
World War
II to the then pending retirement of the BN E units. Included were rosters,
rebuilding, and
operational data.
Later this year, a shortened version of this article will be published in First
& Fastest, the
quarterly magazine of the Shore Line Historical Society. Originally a street
car and
interurban organization, they are shifting their focus to include Chicago area
suburban
operations.
Yes, Charlie, I could have opened my files as well. So my 1951 date was close,
but
inaccurate. Rich did point to good sources as well.
