Great Northern New Equipment Registers (now part of the collection of
Historical Car Records at the Minnesota Historical Society) indicate that
nearly all, if not all, of GN's engines that were not home built were delivered
to St.Paul by the CB&Q. This includes the N-1 2-8-8-0's. I suspect the R-1
2-8-8-2's were also delivered to GN by the CB&Q, but that was long after the
New Equipment Registers stopped being used (or at least no volumes that late
have been found).

Best regards,

Are any record of moving these engines across the Q when there were brand new
on delivery from the factory? I am not taking just about the one mention here
but all of the big western units-- big boy- challengers- cab forwards

Hello Pete, Hol, and All -
Trains magazine had a letter and a photo of WP 402 in the RPO section -
letters to the editor back in
1948 or '49. The date of the magazine would confirm the date of 402's
appearance at the RRF.
Photo was taken at Downers Grove IIRC and the locomotive is freshly painted.
She is identified as
Western Pacific's "Cinderella", which might not have been accurate for an
oil-burner. PAW

Switch broom and outhouse are a nice added benefit to these photos.

The two photos together exceed Yahoo's 10 MB limit, so I'll send them one at
a time.
