Louis:
I know the photo you mean, and I've got it somewhere in the Corbin collection,
but a quick search just now failed to turn it up. Bernie photographed it as it
passed through -- dead as I recall -- and measured it, subsequently using the
material to custom build an O scale model for a customer back east.

Bill, Hol and Group - I think all of this would make the
basis for an excellent article in a future issue of the Burlington Bulletin
entitled "Exotic Steam Visitors To The Q" or something along those
lines..... I have an original photograph of a C&O articulated at
Red Oak, IA, taken during World War Two. It's in route to its new owner UP
in Omaha. C&O (as did N&W) sold a number of obsolete articulated
types to the UP to help with their motive power shortage during the War. As I
vaguely recall, the 'round-a-bout routing was C&O to CGW (at St.
Louis) to Q (interchange point unknown) to UP (at Omaha). I do not
know what the N&W routing was. I think a long time ago there was an article
in Rail Classics magazine about the C&O articulated types moving over the
CGW. My photo of the C&O articulated might possibly be an old Corbin
print that was traded around. Will have to find, scan and share the print.
Incidentally, that image of the double headed Missabe Yellowstones on Lines
West
is truly a one-of-a-kind. Priceless! Many thanks Hol for sharing. Best Regards
-

Are any record of moving these engines across the Q when there were
brand new on delivery from the factory? I am not taking just about the one
mention here but all of the big western units-- big boy- challengers- cab

Hello Pete, Hol, and All -
Trains magazine had a letter and a photo of WP 402 in the RPO section -
letters to the editor back in
1948 or '49. The date of the magazine would confirm the date of
402's appearance at the RRF.
Photo was taken at Downers Grove IIRC and the locomotive is freshly
painted. She is identified as
Western Pacific's "Cinderella", which might not have been accurate for an
oil-burner. PAW

Switch broom and outhouse are a nice
added benefit to these photos.

The two photos together exceed Yahoo's 10 MB limit, so I'll send
them one at a time. Hol
