Jan,
I was a member of all three Societies all through the 1990's. We
approached them many times to try to do a joint meet in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
There was no - repeat, no - interest on their part to do anything with the
BRHS. It wasn't rude and there wasn't any animosity, but there was no
interest. The GN and NP meets already had the overlap and they did some joint
rail
trips together. They obviously were happy with the way things were going
and didn't want to complicate things.
This may have changed with time, but I know the GN and NP still try to
coordinate their meets and they tend to hold them in places in their
railroads' territory that it would be difficult for the BRHS to hold a meet in
(Havre, North Dakota - anyone? Duluth, Minnesota? Seattle, Washington?)
A three Society meet in Minneapolis/St. Paul would be fabulous. Our last
St Paul meet was great and there are many interesting things to do.
Imagine having three times the Societies! Those of you who want to help
organize
such a thing should contact Bob Grenier or Dave Lotz and offer your
assistance. Participation and helping with all of the issues would go a long
way
to making it happen.
