The Omaha Club and, I can't remember which car ran on the other side of the
Aksarben (3-30) in the 1950's. They were heavyweights and ran on the rear end.

I used to go down and get him out of town several nights a week 1954-58.

I'm pretty sure the car I found lettered Ak-Sar-Ben was a photo taken after
1948 but I don't remember the exact date or where I saw it (I think it may
have been in BB#42 in the postwar Exposition flyer equipment photos, but it
could have been in Strauss' Vol. II). The Ak-Sar-Ben was streamline in the
1950's, so I don't know why the heavyweight car was still around unless it
was being used on the Exposition Flier between 1948 and 1949 when the CZ
started running. I know the Exposition Flyer had eclectic consists at the
end.

There were obviously exceptions (aren't there always!), because Spoor's
Color Guide shows a photo of Omaha Club in Pullman green with Burlington on
the letterboard (see page 26). Strangely, somebody used Railroad Roman
instead of ribbon for Burlington when the car was repainted, probably during
restoration. The photo was taken on a railfan trip in 1959. Several coaches
and chair cars in the same book had Burlington on the letterboard, always in
ribbon type.

I just scratchbuilt two BA-19A cars painted Pullman green with ribbon decals
from Microscale. The next one will be a BA-19 in shadow-line.

Nelson,

Lettering of the "name trains" happened way earlier than the time period you
are talking about. They are a whole other story!

The Walthers cars used the Ribbon-style lettering. The Pullman sleepers
didn't get this type of lettering. Make sure to use Railroad Roman style.

The only relettered car I've found a photo of is Omaha Club relettered with
Ak-Sar-Ben on the letterboard and Omaha Club on the side in the center.

Walthers 'generic' Burlington heavyweight cars have lots of problems, but
the funniest ones are on the decal set with Charles A. Bloodwater instead of
Broadwater, and Aurthur A. Denny (sic). I wonder who selected the car names
on the decal sheets, because none of them are usable. I guess something was
lost in translation in China.

Since I'm going to have to repaint some of my Branchline cars with other
road names, I may as well repaint the Walthers cars as well. Now if someone
has the lists I asked Hol about, I'll be ready to start disassembly.

Nelson,

The Q did not re-letter Pullman sleepers to "Burlington" on the letterboard
as long as the cars were in Pullman lease. The Walthers sleepers are
incorrect. When cars were withdrawn from Pullman lease, they typically
painted out the Pullman letterboard and left it blank. They also tended to
paint out the car name and letter it CB&Q, with a car number. Again
exceptions exist. I have not seen a photo of a Q Pullman sleeper with
Burlington on the letterboard. Lounges, diners, and observations - yes.
Sleepers, no. Many sleepers stayed in Pullman lease into the 1960's.

Did the Q retain Pullman car names when they relettered heavyweights from
Pullman to Burlington? The books I have access to list both car names and
car numbers, but were both names and numbers used on sleepers in the late
1940s and early 1950s?
