I shot it at McClure Road same place my Dad and I shot 5632 on the record run
to Chicago
I worked the East End third trick the nite she took the train back to Chicago.
Too dark to see anything when she went by House 9

  Charlie,

Did EMD ever have it's own power plant and get coal
by rail? I have a lot of coal going to McCook in 1959
and I can't figure out who was getting it.

Subject: [CBQ] 1976 American Freedom Train on the CB&Q

On the return leg eastbound the GS4 with the freedom train ran into
  Chicago on the racetrack.
I was commuting from Belmont at the time and decided to take a later train
  than normal to catch
  the train.
Like all steam trains I've waited trackside for, it was running about an
hour or more later than it
was supposed to.... (at least I wasn't in a cold drizzle on top of a
  signal bridge at Congress Park
worrying about a cop spotting me from the Ogden Avenue bridge before the
  4960 finally came through!!!).
I managed to get a good shot of the BN bi-centennial 1776 unit which was
running light as a pilot to
the train... but aside from a few too-far-away shots didn't get a good
image of the GS4. I was
using a Olympus OM-1 and in my excitement managed to get a double exposure
  at the critical
  shot.
I remember getting an impression that the GS4 was one well-crafted
  locomotive as it went by...
something that I've heard people say of Lima products in general.
