Hi All
the steam engine 4449 came through burlington on ist ferry move east to join
up with the freedom train.i belive this happen in chicago.it was ealier evening
here when it went through and i belive stopped in galesburg for the night.i
belive it origanated in denver.i have my dads pictrues from the middle fifties
shown the santa fe PA coming into the burlington station on detours when they
were flooded out in the kansas city area.also after the merger into the BN
the D&H railroad had a couple of PA rebiuld at morrison-kuntz in montana
someplace and the two of the four units came through burlington after being
rebuilt.the one i saw was on number 6 the east bound california zephyer and
they were havinf trouble with the nose coupler coming across Iowa that upon
arrival in galesburg the consist was turned around that the PA lead going into
chicago from galesburg.

I would guess that the only PAs to make it onto CB&Q Chicagoland rails might
have been EL transfer units (or maybe even pool power but I doubt it) and
Santa Fe
detour units. I don't know if the original Freedom Train used the Q in
Chicago on its tour. The D&RGW units might have been delivered over the Q
but I haven't seen
any photos of them and I seriously doubt they ever worked into Chicago.
Hol Wagner would be the most likely person to know in the BRHS
community....or maybe one of the Bob Webbers (the IRM one!).
