Thanks, Mike, for this counter example.  Photo proves it.  My understanding 
of the way the car miles were kept track of, and the nature of the pool of 
cars for the NCL, was that only NP cars went to the IC, in trade for IC car 
miles (e.g. 11-bedroom sleepers) on NP at other times of the year.  I 
suspect that the Q owed NP some miles for dome sleepers, and the NP paid 
the IC with that usage.  Of course, those 11-bedroom cars sometimes ran all 
the way to and from Chicago on 25 & 26, so it could have been a straight 
Q-IC trade, but I haven't found records of that.  Anybody else have 
knowledge of this specific category of transaction?  Arcane stuff, to be sure.
