When the IC plated over the front windows of the domes, they did it because
they were afraid of the frontal impact of any object shattering the glass and
injuring dome passengers. Southern Pacific had the same fears, which is why
they did not have domes on the City of San Francisco, and why their own
homebuilt domes had minimum front exposure. They were especially worried about
what
things falling from tunnel ceilings would do to a dome car. JN
