At one of the BRHS meets there was a discussion about the style having come
about from some CB&Q hvywt diners being returned from a Seaboard or ACL lease
and some official commenting on how much he liked the look of the lettering.
It would be nice to document that (with photos of the cars in Florida service
prior to the style being adopted on the Q, etc.).

Charlie,
Strangely enough, I have been on an ACL kick - trying to determine the
contributions of the PRR, L&N, ACL, and FEC to the South Wind (a joint Chicago
to
Miami streamliner). In the discussion, the subject of the ACL use of the Q
heavyweight diner did come up, which seems to partially substantiate this
story.
I will try to get some more information. I have also heard this that the ACL
typeface did influence the Q from both Al Hoffman and Hol Wagner.
