If these empties were blocked for NP and GN before they were sent to the Twin Cities, this probably saved a great deal of switching time there. On the NP large blocks of lumber and plywood-suitable empties went on all the way west to Auburn. From there they were pooled, sorted and doled out to customers on the west end fairly quickly.
