    Well Pete I've seen all of your list during my career except
    never learned Morse.  First time I ever heard about:

"It was the emulsion formed with the rod dope and the water that created the 
improved lubrication...."  makes perfect sense. 

    Seems I recall reading about how all new brakemen had to spend
    time on the rip track,  it was obviously the correct training.
