My impression is that turntables were more expensive to install and maintain than wyes, since I can think of several instances on the Q and C&S where an original turntable was replaced by a wye. But none going in the other direction, except one case on the C&S narrow gauge, in which the branch was cut back 5 miles to a point where there was no space for a wye, and an abandoned turntable was brought in and (precariously) installed. jonathan --- In CBQ@yahoogroups.com, "graywolfs2" <graywolfs02@...> wrote: > > As it seems kinda quiet around here, I'll ask this question that has been > rolling around in my head for a while now. > > At the end of "Q" branch lines where there was no connection to another > railroad or "Q" main, what generally was the preferred method to turn a > locomotive? > > Turntable or a Wye? > > If a turntable, any idea as to type? > > I know they used truss type at some of the larger engine terminal (photos of > Denver and Eola come to mind), but I am looking for what may have been used > at the end of a light to medium density branch. > > Thanks gang in advance for your help and information. > > > Greg K > Minnesota > ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
