<*>[Attachment(s) from randy@prototrains.com included below] Greg asked: > Turntable or a Wye? > > If a turntable, any idea as to type? Excellent timing on your question, Greg. I have been researching the Ashland-Schuyler branch line (for an upcoming N scale layout), which had a turntable and single-stall enginehouse at Schuyler. Although that is long-gone, it turns out that the Central City-Burwell branch line also had a very similar looking turntable and enginehouse, of which the turntable still exists. (Both the Schuyler and Burwell branches were made by the B&MRRRinNE in 1887, and I am imagining they used a standard turntable design...) I don't know how either turntable was operated "in the day", but at least in later days the Burwell turntable was turned by compressed air motor. A thread with some good pictures of the Burwell turntable is at http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32399 and a few more photos are at http://www.abandonedrails.com/Palmer_to_Burwell >From the one aerial photo of Schuyler that I've been able to find, that turntable scales out to about 65', which is what I'll make mine (it's just right to turn a K-4 or a motorcar). I haven't seen a length on the Burwell turntable, but I am trying to contact the Garfield County Historical Society, who own the Burwell table, to ask about its size. I'm attaching snips of the Burwell and Schuyler aerials.
