The branchline to Columbus, NE had a turntable installed on the north side of
the track between 17th and 18th Avenues. It had a timber-lined pit, as I
recall, and was driven via electric motor. I seem to recall that there may have
been an engine shed to the west of the TT, but don't quote me on that. The TT
was often used to spin a single-unit diesel when traffic didn't require two.

I would guess that if the room was available and the land cheap, a wye would be
used. But at the end of a line in a town of any size, a turntable would be more
practical.
