The equipment is out there if BNSF wants to use it. Ask IRM about their
relationship with BNSF, which can only be described as fantastic. IRM
has apparently proven to BNSF that they are good and appropriate
stewards, as they have received an FP45, U30C, the BN executive units
and been able to operate their Zephyr trainset. The Museum of
Transportation in St. Louis seems to also have a good relationship that
even some minor mishaps with 1522 have not tainted.

BNSF seems willing to work with groups it deems suitably professional
regardless of the heritage of the equipment as shown with MILW 262, but
bad experiences have long term consequences. SP&S 700 shares a
roundhouse with SP 4449, but it is 4449 that will pull the employee
specials this year. The San Bernadino Railroad Historical Society
overcame previous missteps with their Railfair performance and will
hopefully be able to show off their gorgeous locomotive again, but
anyone restoring equipment in hopes that MAYBE the powers that be in Ft.
Worth will want to use it seems like a very expensive gamble. I'd love
to IRM's CB&Q 3003 romping around Illinois....

Regards,
Ben Kroger
