Hi John, The train on the right looks to be one of the second sets of Twin Cities Zephyr. According to Bulletin #10 on the "Q" E-units, this photo shows either ElectroMotive #511 or #512. "EMC 511 an

Greg is correct, the locomotive on the right is EMD 511 on one of the 1936 Twin City Zephyr sets. The locomotive on the left is one of the following: These four units were built, two for the 1936 TCZ

I'm wondering if the scene is the regular power of the TCZ being replaced with the 511...... or maybe vice-versa. I don't know what the schedule for the DZ and TCZ at Aurora would have been, but sinc

Charlie, While your theory is plausible, I question moving or staging the second unit on the through running track to change locomotives. It would seem that the normal move would be to set the shovel

Bill I think you have it.... the paint on the unit is fresh and the idea is plausible. Does anyone know if the 511 and 512 were used as test beds before they were used to make switchers for the MP? I

Looking at the photo, it looks like 511 also has B trucks, at least on the front.   The original custom built 1800 HP passenger units, including 9904 thru 9907 and Santa Fe units 1 and 1A, all had B

I was just wondering how and on what EMD tested the A1A truck..... if indeed the welded Blomberg under the Silver Charger was a prototype.... seems to me that the 511 or 512 would have been a reasona

Well... Blomberg was a Pullman engineer, THEN an EMC/EMD engineer. The the earlier worms were designed by him (in terms of the car body a& trucks). The EA was, I think, the first EMC locomotive with
