Greg is correct, the locomotive on the right is EMD 511 on one of the 1936
Twin City Zephyr sets. The locomotive on the left is one of the following:
#9904 Pegasus, #9905 Zephyrus, #9906 Silver King, or #9907 Silver Knight.
These four units were built, two for the 1936 TCZ?s and two for the 1936
Denver Zephyrs respectively. If you can zoom in on the original, the
locomotive unit number will be above the men?s heads standing in the door of
the unit.

Can somebody tell me about the train on the right (destination, model of
locomotive, ... )? The picture obviously belongs to another person - I just
want some information.

Hi John,

The train on the right looks to be one of the second sets of Twin Cities
Zephyr.
According to Bulletin #10 on the "Q" E-units, this photo shows either
ElectroMotive #511 or #512.

Here is a bit of what the author of Bulletin #10, Jim Sandrin, writes:

"EMC 511 and 512 were also tested extensively on the Q during 1936 and 1937,
primarily on the Twin Zephyrs. In fact they spent so much time on the
Burlington that they were painted silver to better match the stainless steel
Zephyr trains they were handling"

I believe that 511 & 512 were test-beds for EMC in developing the "E" unit.

Hope this answers your question and I'm sure others will chime in with
further information.
