Interesting photo, the track south out of St.Paul is double track shared with the Milwaukee. Having grown up along those tracks, this does not look familiar at all. -- Original Message -- From: mailt

For some reason, this part of my post did not show up in the digest, so I am re-posting it. If you go to the IO Groups site the entire previous post is available: We now have more info on this train

GN F's were regular power on trains 97 and 88 in the early 60's. It was attributed to an agreement the Q had with the GN as it relates to the GN use of Q E units running through to Havre, MT. qman _.

The 'Q' E-units ran from Chicago to Havre, Mt. and back on the Empire Builder, while the GN F-units ran through to Chicago on #88 and then back west on #97. John Olson On 5/17/2019 2:03 PM, Dennis
The Q E-units ran through to Havre, Montana on the Western Star/Fast Mail. As an added bonus, Two E8s were usually spliced with a GN F3/7 B-unit from the 350-370 series passenger pool. This practice

What was the time frame for that arrangement? Presumably a very short time period? Typically the Q passenger E unit power was put on and off at St. Paul. Thanks- Dennis On May 17, 2019, at 3:14 PM, f
I was wrong on my previous post .... the 'Q' E-units were used on the Western Star between Chicago and Havre, Mt. John Olson On 5/17/2019 2:03 PM, Dennis Popish via Groups.Io wrote: Karl: Can you q

January 18, 2019 Tom - There were GN "visitors" to the Q well prior to the F-unit leases in the late 1960s. I've attached an undated image showing GN 4-8-2 No. 2527 testing over the LaCrosse Division

Louis: This photo intrigues me, as I've always wondered why the Q, a staunch Baldwin customer by 1910, went to Lima for its first eight 4-8-2, B-1s 7000-7007, in 1922. I've guessed that it was becaus
Mike: I missed your response until after I had already posted mine; we both said pretty much the same thing; there must have been something about GN's P-2s that the Q thought it might want on its B-1

When I started in 1962 we had GN F's on 97 and 88. All I remember about that "power" was the deplorable condition of the units we ran. Many times there were dead and destroyed units in the consist th
