When I started in 1962 we had GN F's on 97 and 88.  All I remember about that "power" was the deplorable condition of the units we ran.  Many times there were dead and destroyed units in the consist that served as a locomotive.  FT's and F3's were the predominate power of the day.  I've been through units in which the prime mover had blown up a long time before I got it.  I guess it was too much trouble for the GN RH forces to cut them out of the consist.

Luckily, by the time I had enough seniority to hold the pool, the GN junk was gone and 97 usually got 3 or 4 SD45's for power.  THAT was RAILROADIN' in those days !!!!  I still miss gettin' called for 97.
