Leo, Rich, Ed and others: Trains 45 and 52 were discontinued in segments. The Savanna - Minneapolis runs were discontinued on 9-29-58. On 7-18-59, those trains made the last Chicago - Savanna trips.

Considering the fact that a GP7 without cab signals might possibly be assigned, what was the Q's policy towards operating passenger trains without cab signal equipped units. Just asking because the C

I believe all Q GP7's and 9's were equipped with the 62:15 gear ratio which would limit the maximm, SAFE speed to 70 MPH. 51 and 52, as well as 47 and 48, ran on schedules calling for 75 MPH top spee

Is it legal to run locomotives without cab signals as the controlling engine in cab signal territory? Isn't the 90 mph speed limits based on the idea that ALL trains will be equipped with cab signals

John: The GP7's, as well as other geeps and SD's of that generation had 65 mph gearing. I suspect if they even approached 90,the traction motor armatures would be in the process of uncoiling........
