Ed and list,
At this time (1959) the Blackhawk was combined with the Western Star and the
remnant of the Mainstreeter. I think the Blackhawk itself wasn't that many
cars (a couple of coaches and two to three sleepers?).
This would be a great "rainbow" train to model (maybe a heavyweight 4500
series or a 8-5 heavyweight Pullman pinch hitting for the streamlined cars!)
In the year I am modeling (1950) the Blackhawk was combined with the Oriental
Limited - the old heavyweight Empire Builder. The OL, though, was starting
to get repainted in the EB colors, so you had Pullman Green cars and EB
painted cars. You also had a nice combination from the Q (stainless and
Pullman Green). It was a night train, leaving Chicago at 11:15 pm. I
believe that it picked up it's diner in La Cross (it wasn't needed until
breakfast). All in all, a neat train!
