Leo, Rich, Ed and others:
Trains 45 and 52 were discontinued in segments. The Savanna - Minneapolis
runs were discontinued on 9-29-58. On 7-18-59, those trains made the last
Chicago - Savanna trips.
A photo of train 45 at Rochelle with an S-4 taken by Jim Scribbins was, I
believe, published in the Corbin Steam book. As I recall, the consist in
1945 was not much more than in 1958. While pondering the appearance of these
trains, don't overlook the possible assignment of a GP7. Although 243 and
244 were equipped with Cab Signals, any geep with a functional boiler, in
cooler weather, could be assigned. The E unit fleet could be spread only so
far.
Photos of geeps on Galesburg locals 2 and 15 have also also been published.
