Here is another set of train orders from the Pete Hedgpeth/Lenny Ohrnell collection. Most are from 1967 and 1968 across Iowa. About one half of the orders are from 1967. From mid-May to early July 1967 was a busy time for Ottumwa dispatchers as high water impacted the CB&Q mainline across Iowa. Most of this time, the westward main at the Des Moines River was impassible. This high water situation spread into southwestern Iowa as June 1967 came around. Temporary 24 hour train order offices were opened at Dudley (between Ottumwa and Maxon) and at Stanton (between Villisca and Red Oak). When the Stanton office opened, trains were directed to stop at Stanton for additional clearance/orders because the train order signal had been previously removed. Eventually high water affected the Missouri River and impacted passenger trains in and out of Omaha via UP Bridge between Omaha and Council Bluffs. This eventually led to detours of trains such as the eastbound Ak-Sar-Ben Zephyr from St Joseph through Brookfield to West Quincy in the second half of June. These Missouri train orders will be in the next set of orders. While all of this flooding was occurring in late May 1967, the CB&Q changed to the Consolidated Code set of Rules on June 1, 1967. For those interested in power consists of trains, some operators at Omaha and Pacific Junction had the habit of indicating the motive power set of the train on the Clearance Forms. This is included in the data from those locations. In Ottumwa file is several work messages
directing work of
locals and pickups which modelers will find of interest. Also
there are several
messages to passenger train crews about passengers to be set out
at conditional
stops on that day’s train. Also check out the train order about
the bad order PRR locomotive set out on the siding at Osceola. Bill Hirt _._,_._,_
