Hol and Mike - May be some mechanical department correspondence still exists in the preserved Q archives in Baraboo that might answer our questions about "why" the GN Class P-2's and second batch of Burlington Class B-1-A's are mechanically similar. Best Regards - Louis

Mike:
I missed your response until after I had already posted mine; we both said pretty much the same thing; there must have been something about GN's P-2s that the Q thought it might want on its B-1-As.

GN 2527 was the last of the P-2 class Mountains they received from Baldwin in 1923. The Q had already received their
B-1 class Mountains (7000-7007) from Lima in 1922. The Q and GN locos are within an inch or two and a few thousand pounds here and there of being almost identical in their principle specifications. Was there some new feature on the GN P-2 that the Q wanted
to check out? In any case, the Q subsequently ordered B-1As 7008-7020 from Baldwin in 1925, which were copies of the earlier Lima B-1s, but with slightly different tenders.
