Kirby rest assured there were many claims. In the the late 80s I stopped into Yorkville, IL Farmers Grain to buy grass seed. Back then Yorkville was a farm town, no big box hardware stores, chain groceries and only one McDonalds. Now 30 years later the town is  rapidly becoming a Suburb. But back to the story.

After I made my purchase I asked the gentleman when was the last time they shipped grain by rail. He immediately said it was 1964. The boxcar was to go the grain inspection track (grain track in Cicero) and then be sold, reconsigned, etc.

Well the car made it to Cicero but not the grain track. When finally found the car was in Baltimore,MD and half empty.

Did any one calculate the load shrinkage from leaking cars. I am sure that somewhere along the line some one would file a claim for lost grain.
