NOel..That stuff belonged to the railroad, not the elevators...Those wood grain doors served lots of "nefarious" purposes..one of the reasons the RR's were excited about getting rid of them..There was lots of labor and handling of those wood doors. The infamous WWIB had a "grain door reclamation" at terminal elevators. Lots of money spent moving those things around..when they got to a grain loading station the section men would have to unload and stack them up. Pete

When I was growing up on the Q in the 50' we kids would grab a
couple of claw hammers and crowbars and jump up into the empty grain
cars parked on the passing siding behind the house. We would take
the cardboard and wooden boards and hike them up into the back yard.
What a treasure trove. Lots of forts, tree house, and anything else
that sparked our imagination. Probably really ticked off the
elevators grain loading crew.
