Guys,

To help clear things up a little. I’m modeling the late 1960’s mostly around 1968. I have the 951 on my desktop with a nice roof shot. I would like to have a few each through out the number series. I have the 972, 975, 977 as delivered from Proto 2000. I have about 10 undecs’ also P2K. I talked with a former “Q” engineer and he said it just depended on what the radio shop had on hand.

True, it is a BN photo of an ex-UP unit, but it was the best shot I have of the horn location…

the fourth image appears to be from the BN era, so the beacon does not apply and antenna location is incorrect.

Randall...depending on which loco numbers you are doing, and what year,
GP30s had two chime horns and sometimes a single blat horn. Radio
antenna was a firecracker if equipped. GP20s  antenna were a quarter
wave whip (18 inches tall). Horns same deal. The two chime are Overland
brass parts, or if need be, cut the center bell off a three chime.
Placement and type on the '20s again depends on loco and year.  Refer to
pictures in books and on line sites such as Fallen Flags, Rail
pictures.net  and Castle Graphics.

Happy modeling
Gordon
