1st 43, green signals  Engine 9962C  August 11, 1956 CF (called for) 11:00pm...departed 12:0lam,  Conductor Miller.  Arrived Ravenna 2:10am That's a fast run  tied up 2:25am.  We had an assortment of pullmans, coaches and flatcars loaded with  (impedimentia).  Pay was at "through freight" rate.  Earned  $18.68 (130 miles)

  If your went to Ravenna you went right through my backyard. In 1956 I was a sophomore in York HS. Tracks ran North of the sports field (track, baseball diamond, football practice field) If you had steam power on the front you can be dang sure I was watching it.
What month was that? I am sure the troops were going to Ft. Lewis Washington for NG drill.

Bidding my final goodbyes to the military almost 50 years ago I have no idea whether the term is still "in vogue" or not.

In 1956 I was called for a MAIN to Ravenna..."Waycar and work clothes"....  That was the way the call came....Waycar and work clothes" meant that the train crew was not responsible for handling "transportation"...ie tickets.  This train was a National Guard Movement that came in off the Kansas City line and was going somewhere up the Pacific Northwest...There would have been a Passenger Department Representative aboard who would take care of the "passenger train stuff"

We had a couple of the California Zephyr "units"...9962C was in the lead.
