Hi Gordon, I have a Nikon Coolscan V ED. It incorporates several digital technologies to improve the quality of the images as they're being scanned, including dust/scratch removal and restoring color. This has been absolutely indispensable in my case: the older slides sat in my mom's un-airconditioned attic in Chicago for several decades (think heat & humidity in the summer vs freezing temps in the winter, so no further need to elaborate on how idiotic an oversight THAT was) before I rescued them, and then in a closet for a couple more. It's a real tribute to Kodak that there are any recognizable images at all, given the mistreatment. All the images were then further processed in Photoshop, some with a very heavy hand because of severe deterioration. My intent was never to try and reproduce a perfect digital copy of the original images - I forfeited that a long time ago with my neglect - but to preserve a bit of history that others could enjoy. If you like these pics, I'd also encourage everyone to visit Mel Patrick's Shutterfly albums here. There are a multitude of great images there from many different roads, including additional CB&Q pictures from the same area and era in the album entitled "Newly Scanned Slides, 1966-1969".
