I think you are missing the point. The cars were sold and shipped overseas
when they became surplus by the formation of Amtrak. The Saudis, just like
Mexico and Korea, have always been interested in usable equipment (a N&W tavern
- lounge observation has been there for decades) and the railroads took what
they could get. Its not that historical cars are being shipped by museums and
historical organizations... the dasterdly deed was done by the railroads
themselves, but then, they can only afford to donate so much before they have
to stop looking at tax credits and start getting back to what they are suppose
to do, making money for their stock holders.
