Does anybody have Conductor's Book records for California Zephyr consists
other than the ones published by the BRHS?
Those 1960-63 records that show #17 or #18 do not have one "pure" CZ
consist....all of them have foreign road non-CZ cars in the consist. In
fact, the second sections often have an RPO and even have heavyweights in
the consist!
I am trying to see if there were any patterns to the car ownership
assignment in the consists for documentation and guidance for the new
Broadway Limited CZ cars. From the 1960s evidence you can see the gradual
change in conists as they shuttle back and forth. It would be interesting
to study 1949, 1950, and 1952 consists as well to see if the train was more
stable in the earlier years.
