Actually, my comment is, "you're surprised it was so horrible?"
The History channel, Discovery, TLC, PBS and others are not in the business of
"expert analysis". Consider their audience. Their audience is not people like
many of us, who have detailed books, videos and websites that cater to us. No,
we don't pay their bills.
John. Q. Public pays their bills. And JQP is going to get a nice, tidy 1 hour
documentary that has some good 'generalized' information, know a bit more about
a neat topic and feel very happy.
Now some of the documentaries are better than others, and they do put *some*
detailed information in them, but how much can you jam into a 1-2 hour railroad
documentary? Many of us could do a complete hour on a single subject
pertaining to a single railroad.
I'm certainly not an expert on railroads as many of you are, but as an
ex-member of the USAF, I can tell you that the aircraft documentaries are about
the same (although probably a bit better, as they usually do one show per
aircraft)...
Narrator: "The Phantom was highly successful in Vietnam in an air-to-ground
role" (Meanwhile video clip shows a pre-production Phantom firing an
air-to-air Sparrow missle).
See, just support those authors and rr vid makers...THEY are the ones who you
can really complain about if they put out the wrong info! :)
Cheers!
