In my area, at least, I would have to agree with Russell......NORMALLY (well
over 90 percent of the time...enough for me to call it normal) the waycars were
short roof (cupola) forward. I refer specifically to the Aurora-Streator
branch, as well as the suburban areas around Aurora, the main through Plano,
Sandwich, etc., and the main through Hinckley, Waterman etc. In the 50's and
60's, at least it was NOT a common sight to see the waycar with the long roof
forward. It did happen, I have seen the waycars long roof forward, but not very
often. It was, as Russell stated, somewhat of a policy to put a low car
immediately ahead of the waycar.
