Asked a few questions of a few people.
Building down by the riverfront is not even a depot. Was
built as a visitor's center.
Hi Russ,
The restored wood building down by the river front was the first depot,
when the pontoon bridge was accessed via the north end of the island
originally. Later the pontoon bridge launched off the south end of the
island. The brick building under restoration was the former Milwaukee Hotel.
CMStP&P depot is built of stone and is further South.
That depot lasted into the 1980's and was stucco covered clay tile. The
Marquette Roundhouse was brick.

That
was so it could serve trains crossing the river on their bridge.
Last time I was in Marquette the stone roundhouse and all the
stone shop buildings were still standing.
