One more correction to your math. There never was a 788 or 789. AFAICT, they wanted to start the cabs at the next 0 and just skipped those two numbers. You may be overanalyzing the mix of toilets and

Okay, but if you want to use the HEP cars Rapido is currently offering, you must be up to at least 1974. You seem to be ignoring 796-820, at least some of which were ordered by the Q before the merge

I doubt we are. I also have a nagging concern that all the cabs were blanked before even the stickers next to the doors were changed from BN to BNSF, meaning that sales of BNSF cab cars will be poor,

I've just seen some overhead photos of the BN version of these trains where there's a cab car also included "mid-train". In fact, the trains could be pretty easily produced by buying both Rapido sets

The Q only had 6 cab cars, so they couldn't. It is my understanding this was done in later years to facilitate taking cars off to have shorter midday trains without having to switch in a cab car. Bry
