On the Rock Island the engine crews had paper routes too. We'd gather up Tribune and Sun Times pieces left on inbounds, make full papers of them, and air mail to retirees on the first outbound trips

The west end lead at CJ's Ashland Ave Yard was on a curve that went up near the Brighton Park switch tenders shanty IIRC. The lead was split to a north and south side with twenty tracks off of each.
