Kirby, the caption in the Zephyr said that photo was from the early 60's.  That same tower shows up in the circa 1948 photo in the Kable self-published history book.  Gone in later photos.

Thanks to everyone for your help with identifying this structure.

Rich G.

Rich:

Do you know an apps. date of the photo.

Here is a link to a postcard showing an earlier view of the plant before all of the skylights that would have also provided ventilation were closed o, covered or removed. Postmark on the card is 1929.

List,

Let's try this again with the picture attached.  Hopefully, you can expand the photo and see the large vertical structure at the end of the building I'm talking about. It's to the right of the large smokestack.  Two possibilities may be an incinerator for disposing of scrap paper? (pre EPA)  When I expand the photo, it appears that the top is open.  Another idea was this is a cooling tower for some industrial air conditioning to help cool areas of the paper plant to make the rolled paper easier to process.

Any ideas?

Rich
