Your inspection of the scrapyard bound 2-8-2s had to occur between 1956 and
1958. There were five fan trips powered by hudsons during that period. They are
as follows:
1956
07/01 4000 Chicago to Galesburg via Barstow. RR Club of Chicago
09/02 4000 Chicago to Aurora (637 and GP7 235 from Aurora to Streator to
Zearing and return to Aurora. Illini RR Club
1957
09/01 3003 Chicago to Savanna to Galesburg and return. Illini RR Club
1958
08/31 3001 Chicago to Barstow (diesel to Rock Island) and return Illini RR Club
10/12 3001 Chicago to Aurora to Burgess Jct . to Earville and return. No. Palos
Community Council Last hudson trip on the Q
That is all of the possibilities unless the hudson was streamlined. No. 4000
Aeolus made a trip from Chicago to West Burlington and return on August 8,
1937. If that was the trip you saw, you are a lot older than I thought! That
was probably the first fan trip ever operated on the Q.
