Scott,
I do not remember when the trackage into Schafer Bearing Co and Lord Lumber were removed. I believe that trackage was still there in 1961 when I left for college. I didn’t return to DG until 1967 and the trackage was likely gone by then. Some years ago, Glen Haug provided me with a drawing of the track layout for DG. Attached is a view of the downtown area showing the trackage that was once there. This is a BNSF era drawing. I could not find any removal dates for those section of track. Maybe Glen can provide them. Note specifically the additional tracks crossing Main Street that you mentioned. The flashing crossing lights for those tracks was located close to Burlington Ave. I recall switch engines and GP7s doing way freight work in the downtown area, south of the depot. Often, a GP7 and a few cars would be parked between Main St. and Forest Ave. while the crew went to lunch, likely at Snack Time across the street from the Tivoli theater.
