Pat, Ken, John and Group - The handsome Class O-4 5500's during their long and productive service lives were Lines West power. Prior to their retirement in the early-to-mid 1950s, they could be found in roundhouses at Lincoln, Alliance, Hastings, Denver and Casper.  In fact, the 5500's were the major freight power on the Casper (WY) Division until dieselization. A few, as noted by John, found a brief second life after being sold to he C&S.  The unfortunate 5509 when it arrived on the C&S was found to have a crack in its steam dome and was thus unserviceable.  It ended-up being used for parts.  I've always considered the USRA heavy 2-8-2's to be well proportioned and attractive as locomotives go.  While there are many images of the 5500's operating as C&S 800's, views of them operating on Lines West are not so common. I've attached three images. They show the 5503 and 5504 double heading near Gillette, WY; the 5500 at Scotts Bluff, NE; and the 5502 at Galesburg, IL, in 1954 headed to a Chicago area scrap yard. My father was train master at Casper during the early 1950s and mentions in his journals what fine and reliable locomotives the Class O-4's were.  Best Regards - Louis
