Ten years ago, I worked for an abstract company in Des Moines County. One project I once worked on was searching properties on both sides of Hwy 61 from the north Burlington city limits to the Louisa County line. This was for changing Hwy 61 to 4 lane. There had been a BN switch on the south side of Mediapolis for the gypsum plant. All of the BN and Rock Island track had been gone for years. One property I searched was where the switch had been located. If I recall correctly, that piece of land was still titled to BN. I did not see a reversion clause on the deed. I don't know the status today, but it could create an interesting legal scenario if the adjoining land owner thought it was his and tried to sell it. The Rock Island ROW in the area was deeded back to the original properties except for mineral rights. Ken Vandevoort
