Hol - Among the many Q steam locomotives sold to NWS&W was Class B-1-A
4-8-2 type No. 7008 shown in the attached image at Sterling, IL, awaiting
dismantling in August 1953. The Corbin book states that the B-1-A had been
sold for scrap in July 1953. No. 7008 had been a Lines West lignite
burner as evidenced by the locomotive's extended smoke box and yellow square
painted on the tender coal bunker. The obsolete long boilered 4-8-2 had
been equipped with heat treated alloy steel running gear and a box pok main
driver. No. 7008, once the pride of the Q's Lines West passenger
locomotive fleet, had become just so much unprepared scrap waiting for
the NWS&W burners. Best Regards - Louis
