I can imagine that Montgomery Ward sores were called Wards like Sears (Sears and Roebuck) to a point that in 1999 they changed their name officially to Wards. Alas, it was too little too late, and they liquidated the chain in 2000.

I remember hearing the store being called Monkey Wards throughout my adolescence. I was also told to fetch a monkey wrench and any fun I was having was often compared to a barrel of monkeys. Seems like a lot of monkey business was going on with my elders.

Noel thanks for the reminder of the President of MW being carried out in his chair...I had forgotten about that....I have forgotten his name, but  I think I can find out....Just so YA KNOW...it isn't Montgomery or Ward.
