Now sitting on a coffee table with the Wards catalog on top it would look awkward so to make the stack look symmetric folk would naturally place the smaller catalog on top of the pile. Thereby the Sears catalog was always on top an easiest to reach..

Biggest competitor to Sears. Had really good products. I went through three of their life time car batteries for free. They got tired of seeing me coming. Like all good outfits in the 70' they went down the tube to total mismanagement. A famous picture in Life Magazine in 42 or 43 shows the President of Montgomery Wards being carried out of his office in his chair by soldiers because he refused to work with Roosevelt on the war effort. Had his own way which was probably better.
