How many remember the Monkey Ward Christmas catalog, that had all the neeto trainsets? ow many got started in model railroading with that?? I lived out in the sticks and the "big trip to the city" was always Mt Vernon Illinois. The Monkey Ward there was in this kind of strip mall that was built on the former grounds of the The Mount Vernon Car Manufacturing Company. There were still rails embedded it what was the parking lot. It was also near Precision Engineering, and near, if I remember correct, the L&N tracks. As a kid I remember seeing all kinds of engines and trains that I normally would not see anywhere else. I think every appliance we had was sold and serviced by Wards, and most of the toys at Christmas. They did not have anything as far as toys in that store, but, I remeber just before they closed down, they had some HUGH Lionel passenger cars, that I begged (unsuccessfully) my mother to buy. __._,_.___
