Rupert if you have received Zephyr 65 look at the photo at bottom left on pg 10.

The speed recorder tape(if there is one)

 Will be in the box on top the speedometer . The lid flips forward to allow access. There would be a lock on the back side

Where  was the recorder tape box situated? 100 years ago, it was positioned directly above the front truck with a coiled wire belt running round a pulley wheel bolted on the outer end of the axle.  There was a "fine tension wire" by which the movement of the recorder is transmitted to a speed gauge in the cab.

Karl politely didn't mention that for some unknown reason recorder tapes were often unavailable for review after an incident.

Just an odd coincidence that the Rdhse forces would forget to install new tapes
On a loco about to be involved in an event
