It was kind of a light jade green. There were spray bars on the loading booms so as to cover the entire width of car (and sometimes splatter the side of the car) and to put green paint through the the depth of the car.  It was just a light spray so every piece of coal was not covered. The waybills were noted "GMOT" which stood for "Green Marked Oil Treated".

John,

What shade of green would be close? I am thinking model RR color not necessarily exact shade. Also is the whole load colored, or just a strip down the center, or ?

I just finished a model of a carload of "Green Marked Dustless Coal" using one of the new Walther "War Emergency" hopper car. I had to custom mix the paint to get it the way, I remembered it. The late D.W. Buchanan (founder of Old Ben Coal Corporation and "brains" behind the marketing gimmick) would be proud that one of Old Ben's former employees would remember the trademark!
